Does any-one remember Moonbeam?

Posted on Tuesday 30 May 2006

I found a selection of these old readers at work today. They were written by Selma and Jack Wassermann and illustrated by George Rohrer.

They were first published nearly forty years ago.

The illustrations are just wonderful.

It’s funny how the way you view things changes. A few years ago I would’ve thought how old and out dated these were, time to get rid of them. But now I view them as ‘a real find’ that needs to be kept safely. I also think what can I learn from these illustrations to bring into my own work? I might just have to search a little more and see what other treasures I can find?

Do these books reflect “vogue” styles of illustrations? Certainly computer imaging was not around, but were there specific styles which were used in everything from children’s books to posters advertising goods and services.

Thanks for visiting and commenting Marc and good question Adriana. I am no expert but this style of illustrating was very common back in the times of these books. I even see digital art being done today that is very similar to this.
