Marion, often I sketch first, scan the picture in and then draw. Other times I draw without a sketch. In the case of the girls, I had a photo of my daughters to work from and drew immediately in illustrator (I made quite alot of changes from the photo). Regards, Michelle.

I always have difficulty in Illustrator with drawing lines, since it always wants different things than I want! I like your fluid lining. Thanks.
