Peter and the Wolf

Posted on Thursday 1 June 2006

This week I listened to the story of Peter and the Wolf with a group of my students. I was inspired to draw these little characters. Maybe I will use these to do some story-telling of my own. Peterandthewolf.jpg
I haven’t drawn the hunters yet, but no time now. My washing and housework eagerly awaits!

Does any-one remember Moonbeam?

Posted on Tuesday 30 May 2006

I found a selection of these old readers at work today. They were written by Selma and Jack Wassermann and illustrated by George Rohrer.

They were first published nearly forty years ago.

The illustrations are just wonderful.

It’s funny how the way you view things changes. A few years ago I would’ve thought how old and out dated these were, time to get rid of them. But now I view them as ‘a real find’ that needs to be kept safely. I also think what can I learn from these illustrations to bring into my own work? I might just have to search a little more and see what other treasures I can find?

Family art

crazy_hair_day.jpg
The children had crazy hair day at school. Note the lovely art work in the background. I am not the only person in this family who likes to draw. So today I am going to feature some of Scott, Jessica and Chloe’s art work.

Now it’s my turn. I wanted to make a simple and colourful illustration. My starting point was these ducks I took a photo of last week out at Warrandyte.

I knew with the dull colour in this photo I would have to make major colour changes. I also adjusted the colour and stoke size of my brush for a different effect. Made sure the ducks had a smile and were looking at the viewer.

Getting ready in the morning

Posted on Friday 19 May 2006

Ages ago I made a poster to stick on the door which had all the morning instructions for my children to follow. Believe it or not, it helped the morning run smoother and every-one get more organised. I am redoing this poster at the moment and here are two of the illustrations.

This is half of the picture that I’m working on at the moment. I will update it tomorrow.
P.S. Adriana, a friend of mine has just started a blog called knittinggold.  She wrote an entry on the Beaconsfield miners that is well worth a read.  Keep up the great knitting Adriana.
